How Much Does a Bathroom Renovation Cost? Entry-Level to High-End

A bathroom renovation typically costs anywhere between £5,000 and £50,000, depending on the scope of the work. That's a wide range, and there's a good reason for it. Everything from a modest shower refresh to a full luxury transformation falls somewhere on that scale.
At Wells Spa, we carry out all kinds of renovations for homeowners across Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, and the surrounding villages, and we take just as much pride in the smaller jobs as we do the show stopping ones. Whatever your budget, the goal stays the same, a bathroom that works properly and looks the part.
What's the Typical Price Range?
At the entry level, this might mean replacing an old shower area or updating a tired suite. At the higher end, it could be a full luxury transformation with premium fittings and finishes throughout. One thing that often surprises people is that our labour costs stay fairly consistent regardless of spec. What really drives the price up or down is the suite you choose and the materials that go with it.
What Actually Affects the Cost?
A handful of choices make the biggest difference to your final bill:
Tile size and material. Smaller tiles take longer to lay, and natural stone such as marble costs more to buy and takes longer to install than standard ceramic.
Tap type. A deck mounted tap can be fitted in around 30 minutes. Wall mounted taps look great, but they need hidden pipework, which can take half a day or more.
Wet room trays and underfloor heating. Popular upgrades, and both add to material and labour costs.
Prep work. Older properties often have surprises waiting, blown plaster, uneven walls, or extra care needed for listed buildings. Smaller tiles also need precise, time consuming levelling underneath before they go down.
None of this is meant to put you off. It's simply worth knowing what drives the numbers before you start pricing things up.
How Does the Quoting Process Work?
If you'd like to see things in person before deciding, we have a partnership with a showroom and can arrange a bespoke design visit. It's a great way to get a feel for suites, tiles, and finishes before committing to anything.
When you're ready, our team carry out a free site survey to understand exactly what your bathroom needs. From there, we put together a written quote. Every bathroom is different, so rather than promise a fixed turnaround, we aim to get your quotation back to you as quickly as possible, depending on the complexity of the job.
When Does a Refresh Become a Renovation?
Plenty of bathroom projects start as a quick refresh and grow once old plaster or pipework gets uncovered. If you're not sure whether your project needs a full renovation or just a few updates, that's exactly the kind of thing worth talking through with us before you settle on a budget.
